IRS 1099b Filing Dates

For calendar year 2008, Copy B of Form 1099-B is due to barter exchange participants by February 2, 2009. Copy A of the form is required to be filed with the IRS by March 2, 2009. If filing electronically, the due date is March 31, 2009. 

Software that generates a file according to the specifications in Publication 1220, Specifications for Filing Forms 1098, 1099, 5498, and W-2G Electronically (PDF) must be used by barter exchanges. The IRS does not provide a fill-in form option.
